My Hobbies

I am an adult who loves to read. I read just about anything although fantasy, paranormal, and crime novels tend to top my lists. I am also a huge Star Trek fan and currently have 334 books from across all of the various series.  I bought a Kindle a few years back and upgraded through the Kindle Fire to my current reader, the Kindle Paperwhite.  I enjoy participating in the Goodreads Seasonal Reading Challenge each quarter which challenges me to read books in other genres that I would normally avoid.

We are DVD collectors.  That sounds so much better than DVD hoarders.  Current count is closing in on 1,000.  There is something satisfying about having a wide variety of movies to watch, although Netflix and Hulu make it easy without having to get out the physical copy.  At least this way, we are not completely dependent on the streaming services, although it is almost an obsession to collect more and more movies.  I use the Collectorz software to maintain a database of all of our DVDs.

I list writing as a hobby but I don’t actually do any writing.  I collect story ideas though which I then try to play out in The Sims.  I enjoy the process of character creation and writing their back story.  Then I lose interest in move on to the next character.

Star Trek gets listed as a hobby as, in addition to the books mentioned above, I also have every movie on DVD and the complete DVD set for all of the TV series.  I was drawn into the Star Trek universe when I was young and it fascinated me in a way no other TV show or movie could.  As I am writing this, I have realized that Harry Potter has the same pull on me that Star Trek has had all of these years.

My favorite Harry Potter website is the Hogwarts Extreme RPG forums.  I am currently working through Year 3 classes.
